After completing his photography studies in Munich, Jan-Peter Westermann knew just what he wanted, which is why he chose to become a freelancer. From early on, he placed a focus not only on still life, news coverage and travel photography, but also on food photography, which gained him a national reputation here in Germany. Genuine photography, breaking free from constructed studio sets, creating believable situations – that’s what Jan-Peter Westermann strives towards again and again. He loves lively props with stories of their own. Props that reflect a materiality that has developed over the years. He wants to get down to the basics using both interpretation and idealisation, to appeal to the senses and arouse emotions. Only then does food photography meet his demands.
